Virus riddled little T

Sure - it's been 2 months and I arrive in your lives with a sickness post. It's not like I don't have other things swirling around my brain like Joe's new bike, Ryan's last day of grade school, upcoming summer plans including an actual vacation or two, and perhaps even counting CD's. Not that we're trying or that I think my body is 'normal', but that's a whole other story.

But no, my mind is consumed with all things virus. This little girl of mine has been running a fever for a week now. A high fever. Temps of 104 fever. Not summer vacation like in any sense of the word. She is unhappy, not eating, sleeping fitfully, and hot. Not hawt, but hot. And I'm worried and tired and a bit manic by this point.

This week has included an office visit, an ER visit, having some fine looking paramedics in our living room, and another office visit. Yes, paramedics. Yesterday. When the fever spiked to 104 again and hands and feet and arms were turning blue... again. She was not pleased by this, or any of the goings on of the week and I really can't blame her.

All of this just leads to the diagnosis of virus. Crap. You can't do anything to speed along a virus. NOTHING. That is so very very frustrating to us. So, we sit and watch and snuggle and pace and try to keep her from getting dehydrated and hope she doesn't turn blue.... again.

I don't like seeing her like this...

Act of Kindness - Joe Version

Joining Kate again this week with my weekly act of kindness observation. This week's is from an experience Joe had just yesterday.

Joe is so full of personality ~

He makes friends everywhere he goes and trusts everyone. This is so outside my comfort zone as I am quite the introvert, but watching life through his eyes is amazing.

Yesterday my mom took him to a fast food restaurant for lunch (don't worry, he did get some healthy food). In his lunch was a batman toy. He wanted to bring it up into the play place to show the slide. No, not show batman the slide, but rather show the slide batman. Don't ask ~ he's 3. So there was a kid up there that wanted to meet and hold batman, so being the kid he is, Joe shared batman with this boy. After a few minutes.... errr.... seconds, Joe ran off to play on some other part of the contraption.

A while later Joe was playing with a boy named Jake. Joe realized that batman was missing and started looking for him. Jake joined in and they scaled that place from top to bottom. When batman never showed up, Jake went over and got the toy out of his lunch and gave it to Joe!! How sweet is that?? Mom thinks Jake is around 5'ish. What a great kid. I hope he is like that all his life. And so now Joe has a robin toy that he call's Jake's. So hopefully he will never forget how he got that toy. Never before has one of those cheap a** meal toys been so priceless!

One more pic of Joe supporting his favorite baseball team. Go Twins!!!

Act of Kindness 3.25.11

Again this week I am joing Kate and writing about a random act of kindness.

Mine may seem very little to you, but to me it was huge. It was huge because it came from Ryan. Ryan is my oldest. Ryan is 14. 14 is a teenager. I know you remember what it was like to be a teenager. Teenagers aren't always nice.

Ryan is a great kid. He isn't perfect by any means, but in the grand scheme of things, he is a great kid. He's been on spring break this week and so I took a few days off to spend time with him and the littles.

It was like pulling teeth, but I was able to get him out of the house with me and his siblings for an afternoon at the largest mall in America. I was so happy that I 'forced' him to come as we really had a good time and he was a huge help. He always made sure that Joe was holding his hand, or holding Teaghan so I could go to the salad bar, or the biggest - holding the door for us and strangers. And he just does it so naturally. Such a big heart.

What about you? Have you seen any random acts of kindness this week? Want to join in?

Act of Kindness - 3.18.11

I am joining up with Kate to reflect on the Lenten season in a new light. In the light of kindness to others. Kate's request is that we document an act of kindness that we have witnessed or taken part in.

This week has been full of international acts of kindness in the after effects of the quake/tsunami/nuclear reactor situation in Japan. Watching that country pull together and hold each other up has been amazing. There have been no reports of looting or taking advantage of one's neighbor. This impresses me to no end. And then of course you have so many countries pulling together money and aid to help them out.

Closer to home this week has been the annual food drive at work. My co-workers have been busy pulling together raffles, auctions, Wii tournaments, drop boxes, you name it, in order to help stock the dwindling food shelves in our area. The number of people that rely on food shelves these days, whether it is a one time thing or an ongoing basis, continues to rise. It has felt good to be a small part of helping a large situation.

Care to share any acts of kindness you witnessed this week? Pop on over to Kate's blog to learn all about it.

A Baby Shower

I brought my baby to a baby shower. It was a good time. She behaved great and was a huge hit.

I was a wreck inside. Seeing my niece pregnant made me cry. Having her tell me that she doesn't take this pregnancy for granted helped a ton. She knows nothing is guaranteed and I pray she never has to live through the pain of a loss of any type.

Once an Infertile, always an Infertile. I still carry the card, even when I am carrying my babies.

Farewell - A Love Letter

As we leave the month of LOVE – I leave you with a love letter to my breast pump

Dear Breast Pump –

It is with a tinge of sadness that I bid you farewell. We have spent many an hour together, locked up in rooms at my place of employment. It was weird sitting at work with my shirt off and the girls hanging out hoping that the cleaning staff didn’t choose that moment to clean the ‘mother’s room’.

We had a love/hate relationship through two children now. There were days that I was so tired that I swore you were talking to me through your motor. Phrases like ‘you suck’ to ‘wake up’ over and over again. And then after sitting there for almost 30 minutes, you only got 2 ounces out of me. And some days you even made me bleed. Those were days I really didn’t like you.

Then there were the days that I would get enough for 2 bottles. There was no mocking from you and there was much joy in my heart to be able to not do all formula the next day. Unfortunately those days were few and far between.

After trying suggestions to up my supply and keep our relationship going, it is best that we end while still on speaking terms. Teaghan is still getting the gold in the morning and at bedtime and is growing and thriving. She doesn’t seem worse for the wear. And to put the cherry on top – I can add caffeine back into my arsenal. So it’s a win/win. T is good and I am good and I am awake for work. Well, except for the fact that T is no longer sleeping through the night, or by herself, but Breast Pump you don’t need to hear about that.

So, with that, I thank you for helping me feed my two youngest children and fondly say good-bye. We need to figure out a way to throw you a wonderful retirement party. Any ideas?

Salutations,
Sore Nipples and Saggy Girls
