Farewell - A Love Letter

As we leave the month of LOVE – I leave you with a love letter to my breast pump

Dear Breast Pump –

It is with a tinge of sadness that I bid you farewell. We have spent many an hour together, locked up in rooms at my place of employment. It was weird sitting at work with my shirt off and the girls hanging out hoping that the cleaning staff didn’t choose that moment to clean the ‘mother’s room’.

We had a love/hate relationship through two children now. There were days that I was so tired that I swore you were talking to me through your motor. Phrases like ‘you suck’ to ‘wake up’ over and over again. And then after sitting there for almost 30 minutes, you only got 2 ounces out of me. And some days you even made me bleed. Those were days I really didn’t like you.

Then there were the days that I would get enough for 2 bottles. There was no mocking from you and there was much joy in my heart to be able to not do all formula the next day. Unfortunately those days were few and far between.

After trying suggestions to up my supply and keep our relationship going, it is best that we end while still on speaking terms. Teaghan is still getting the gold in the morning and at bedtime and is growing and thriving. She doesn’t seem worse for the wear. And to put the cherry on top – I can add caffeine back into my arsenal. So it’s a win/win. T is good and I am good and I am awake for work. Well, except for the fact that T is no longer sleeping through the night, or by herself, but Breast Pump you don’t need to hear about that.

So, with that, I thank you for helping me feed my two youngest children and fondly say good-bye. We need to figure out a way to throw you a wonderful retirement party. Any ideas?

Salutations,
Sore Nipples and Saggy Girls

6 months

T is 6 months old already! Where does the time go? Parts of the past few months have been such a fog that I am hoping I will remember some of it. Life just moves so fast with working full-time and trying to eek out every minute of every day. I feel like most of my night is prepping for the next day and dinner and getting kids ready for bed. Poor Ryan ~ he is so on the back burner right now that I am so pleased that he is keeping up his grades. Thank God he doesn't need help too often with his homework. Not sure where I would fit that in.

Enough of that. Time for the BIG news. T is a BIG girl. Weighed in at 18# 9oz and measured just about 27" long. We will be getting her a new car seat this weekend as she barely squeezes into the infant one now. Especially with her snowsuit on. If this winter would just end we could probably make the chair last a little longer, but it's inevitable.

Down with the Sickness

Where is spring? I need to be able to open our windows and clear out the sicknesses. It has been a horribly ill winter that started well before Christmas. And I am sick of being told during numerous doctor visits that it is 'just a virus'.

Saturday landed poor Joe in the Emergency Room at one of our local hospitals. He was running a high temp, not eating or drinking, sleeping a ton, not walking, but crawling, and complaining of stomach pain. When it got harder to wake him up we decided it was time to bring him in and get him checked over. And did I mention he had just finished up a round of antibiotics 2 days before this episode.

They did a urine culture, blood draw, and chest x-ray. All came back in the normal range. Some numbers were skewed, but just pointed to some inconclusive infection his body is fighting. Brought him home and Sunday was a lot of the same.

Fever is now down and energy level is starting to come up. Not a lot of an appetite and still pretty clingy and whiney (which I am a HUGE fan of.... not). Still worried that something is going on - especially with his breath smelling so funky, but I will give it some time to work out of his system.

Ryan and T have great coughs, as does the husband. I have wrapped myself in bubble wrap to deter the germs - no time for the Momma to get sick.

Hope this finds you all healthy.
